The following entry is part of a commentary on Ezekiel 36-39, which is fictionalized in my book, The Last Aliyah – Book 1 of The Time of Jacob’s Trouble trilogy.
Ezekiel 36:37 – Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet [for] this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do [it] for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.
In Israel today, there is a slow, but steady, messianic movement, and through the work of groups like Jews For Jesus, Calvary Chapel, and others, more Israelis are becoming messianic: being saved by believing that Jesus is indeed their Messiah.
Ezekiel 36:38 – As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I [am] the LORD.
The phrase “and they shall know that I am the LORD” is the main point of the Book of Ezekiel – God making Himself known once again to both Israel and the rest of the earth, all of which have long forgotten or cast off God. The phrase is repeated dozens of times in Ezekiel, and is tied to God’s longing to be with His people.
